Everything’s Fine

A Boston University Honor Thesis Film
Sep-Dec 2023

Role: Production Designer

“Everything’s Fine' is a coming-of-age story about two siblings, Eva and Sam, emotionally reconnecting after their mother’s death. On the night of their Catholic school prom, Eva is plagued with insecurities about living up to her mother’s expectations which manifest in isolating tendencies with Sam and her crush, Bea. With gauche dances, an unconventional pastor, and a weed brownie, the story explores the comedic and sometimes absurd aspects of grief, jealousy, and vulnerability.”

In this movie, I served as the head of production design, overseeing a team of approximately 10 individuals tasked with setting the stage for a prom scene and a school hallway. Additionally, I autonomously handled the set decoration for two and a half rooms within a house. Collaborating closely with the costume designer, I managed the wardrobe for three main characters and coordinated the prom costumes for 40 extras.

My Rival

A Boston University Prod II Short Film
April 2023

Role: Production Designer

My rival explores the dynamic between two individuals who have consistently regarded each other as their sole rivals throughout their entire lives. However, when a shift occurs in their roles as winner and loser, their longstanding relationship unravels, prompting them to search for the true essence of their connection.

This cinematic endeavor is a meticulously conceptualized project with a substantial emphasis on production design. The overarching goal of the film is to evoke a mid-century modern and retro ambiance. As the production designer, I focused primarily on set dressing for two main scenes —the dining room and living room of the main character's house, as well as the therapist's office. These settings were carefully crafted to convey that the two characters inhabit an imaginary yet deeply connected world that resonates with reality.

The Greatest of Hope

A Boston University Prod II Short Film
March 2023

Role: Director of Photography

The Greatest of Hope narrates a tale of coming to terms with the loss of a loved one. The storyline revolves around an elderly man who encounters a young artist profoundly influenced by his deceased wife's gallery. This leads him to make the courageous decision to visit his wife's art studio, confronting the harsh reality of her absence.

This movie represents my inaugural venture into the role of Director of Photography, presenting ample opportunities for visual expression. Teaming up with my gaffer, I predominantly employed a naturalistic lighting style, incorporating a shift from a cold tone to a warm tone to reflect the evolving emotional state of the main character. This thematic transformation was also evident in the shot composition, utilizing wide shots extensively to convey his initial loneliness and transitioning to more medium and close-ups in the later stages of the narrative.
